Intel and MICA – Fashion and Technology Meet in a Big Way

After my thoughts on Intel and wearable technology, I decided to see if I could find any info on what they were up to.  After all, the smart bands and smart watches available from most companies are cool and everything, but nobody in their right mind would go so far as to say they were fashionable.

Wow!  I was not disappointed!  Intel’s partnership with MICA (Opening Ceremony) was where I started. (and ended because I kept wishing I had the $495.00 it cost to pre-order the band)  Their title “Where Beauty Meets Intelligence” was spot on.

They have two bands, one white, one black made with semi-precious gems and snakeskin. 18-karat gold coating, Russian Obsidian, South African Tiger’s Eye, Pearls and Lapis are just some of the items used for these beauties.  It is estimated that they will be ready to be shipped December 20 – 24, 2014.

The functionality seems to be good as well.  You can get Gmail notifications, Facebook calendar alerts, Yelp recommendations and more delivered to the sapphire touchscreen on the back side of the band.  The band has vibration based notifications, and allows you to respond with customizable messages.

I am also including their promotional video because I found it humorous.  Yes, I wish my day went as well as hers!
